Some business ideas begin with a carefully written plan. Others grow from a lifelong passion, a personal experience or the influence of someone special.

For Sydney businesswoman Aisha Raffi, founder of Mina Finery, it was a combination of all three.

Her love of fashion began long before she launched her clothing brand.

But between building a career, raising a family and managing everyday responsibilities, her dream of creating her own collection remained on hold.

Today, Mina Finery is bringing that dream to life through feminine, modest clothing made with natural fibres, thoughtful design and a commitment to quality.

Behind the brand is a story of family, perseverance and a mother's lasting influence.

A Brand Inspired by Her Mother's Legacy

The name Mina Finery carries a deeply personal meaning.
"Mina" comes from Emina, the name of Aisha's late mother, while "Finery" reflects the beautiful, well-made clothing she wanted to create.

Growing up, Aisha learned an important lesson from her mother: buying fewer things and choosing quality pieces that last can be more meaningful than constantly buying something new.

Even when money was limited, her mother appreciated unique, carefully made clothing and would save for pieces she could enjoy for years.

Those values stayed with Aisha and eventually became central to Mina Finery's approach to fashion.

Rather than following every new trend, she wanted to create clothing women could love, wear repeatedly and keep for years.

Turning a Lifelong Dream Into a Business

Mina Finery officially launched in August 2023, but the journey began much earlier.

During maternity leave with her first three children, Aisha spent four years exploring ideas, testing designs and developing samples.

She had always loved fashion and creativity. But like many women, she had balanced those interests with the practical responsibilities of work and family.

Maternity leave gave her an opportunity to reconsider her ambitions.
Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, she began turning her ideas into something real.

That decision eventually led to the launch of Mina Finery.

Finding Inspiration in an Everyday Problem

One experience that shaped the brand came after Aisha began wearing the hijab in 2019.

She found it difficult to buy clothing that combined modesty, femininity, comfort and her personal style.

During a summer trip to Europe, the challenge became even more apparent.

Finding modest clothing made from lightweight, breathable natural fabrics was not easy.

Aisha recognised that other women might be feeling the same frustrations.

She wanted clothing that offered coverage without sacrificing individuality, comfort or beautiful design.

So she started designing the pieces she had been searching for herself.

The Dress That Started It All

The first garment in the Mina Finery collection was the Iris Dress.

Aisha had been looking for a white shirt dress that was lined, comfortable and provided enough coverage without requiring additional layers underneath.

Unable to find what she wanted, she decided to create her own.

The Iris Dress became more than the first product in her collection.

It helped establish the brand's philosophy: clothing should solve real problems while remaining practical, feminine and timeless.

That same thinking still influences her designs today.

Choosing Quality Over Fast Fashion

Mina Finery takes a considered approach to clothing production.

The brand focuses on small-batch collections, natural fibres, timeless designs and production practices guided by Aisha's commitment to ethical manufacturing.

She works with skilled dressmakers in India to bring her designs to life.

For Aisha, the people behind each garment matter as much as the finished product.

She wants customers to understand that producing quality clothing involves skilled work, careful material selection and attention to how garments are made.

Her aim is to encourage women to buy more thoughtfully and choose pieces they can enjoy for many years.

She also hopes that garments will be cared for, repaired when needed and even passed down to future generations.

Building a Business While Raising Four Children

Like many women running small businesses, Aisha is balancing entrepreneurship with family responsibilities.

As a mother of four young children, finding time to develop her brand, learn marketing skills and manage the day-to-day demands of business has been challenging.

Growing a clothing label requires more than creating beautiful designs.

It also involves finding customers, building awareness, managing production and continuously learning.

When asked about her proudest achievement, Aisha's answer was simple: starting.

After dreaming about creating her own fashion brand for so many years, taking that first step was an achievement in itself.

Her journey is a reminder that business success does not always

begin with having everything figured out.

Sometimes, it begins with deciding to give an idea a chance.

Clothing for Every Season of Womanhood

Mina Finery stands out for clothing that adapts to women's changing lives.

Aisha designs with pregnancy, breastfeeding, motherhood and everyday life in mind.

Her collections blend feminine styling, natural fabrics, modest design, and practical features to make clothing comfortable and versatile.

She wants women to find pieces that suit their lifestyle without feeling they need to replace their wardrobe at every new stage.

As Aisha describes her vision:

"Exclusive, feminine, slow fashion supporting women through all seasons of womanhood.

Designed to move with you through pregnancy, nursing and beyond.

Made to be worn, mended and passed down."

Looking Ahead: Growing Mina Finery

Aisha hopes to establish Mina Finery as a recognised Australian slow-fashion brand.

Her plans include building relationships with retailers, reaching more customers across Australia and exploring opportunities overseas.

Europe and the United Arab Emirates are among the international markets she would like to explore.

She is also interested in expanding her product range to include accessories and footwear.

As the business continues to evolve, the values behind it remain the same: thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and clothing women can enjoy for years.

Opportunities to Collaborate With Mina Finery

As Mina Finery continues to grow, Aisha welcomes opportunities to connect with boutiques and retailers who appreciate quality clothing, natural fabrics and thoughtful fashion.

She is open to exploring partnerships with businesses across Australia and beyond.
